Winnie (my across-the-hall neighbor) was a baking machine all weekend. The apartment building smelled great. Sunday night I decided to bake something, so I made the old standby quick chocolate cake (e-mail me if you want the recipe) since I had all the ingredients in my cupboard.
my mom didn't have enough butter in the fridge (the recipe calls for 12 tablespoons), so I substituted 4 tablespoons of Brummel & Brown. The crust wasn't as light and delicious as with all the butter. The flavor of the whole wheat flour was a bit more noticeable this time. The lovely blue baking dish is a Bennington Potters pan my mom has had for about 20 years.
I saw Ina Garten make this on "the barefoot contessa" on the food network. It was really easy to make. Search for the recipe on FoodNetwork.com (you don't really need all the sugar or butter. I made it with whole wheat flour).
